I bought a front axle from a Classic to use on my 110 project and find it's come with the damper weight on it. I'd seen pictures of them before but it's a funny thing just sitting there and I wondered if anyone knew what vibration/resonance it killed, and why it wasn't used on the other cars using the same axle.

I don't mind keeping it, but it's a either a couple of pounds of unsprung weight that I could lose, or something that I should add to the front of any other live axle Landy I own in the future.

It's a harmonic balancer and part of the overall NVH reduction package on Range Rover's and Discovery's.

On it's own it probably makes little difference. But when combined with all the other changes that a Disco or RR has, you get an end result of a much more quiet and refined vehicle.

I shall leave it on and get used to the car, then may try taking it off to see if I can tell the difference....
