Lots of good advice out there on how to fix non- or semi-functioning electric Disco windows. But I didn't see a post that points out something that - now that I have done it backwards and wrong - seems obvious. Start with the quick and easy stuff.
Assuming that there's no nasty noise coming from inside the door that indicates a mechanical jam-up:
Step 1: clean out the window switches in the central console. It's quick and it's easy and it might solve the problem. It's also fun: when you put them back in, wire up the windows to different switches and watch your kids / spouse try to lower or raise their windows.
If that doesn't fix it, what the hell. You had fun and they probably needed cleaning anyway. Move to step 2.
Step 2: check the wires where they go through the rubber grommet-accordion thing between the frame and the door. This is also easy to do. Investment to this point is maybe 15 minutes.
Only at this point should you go for the window control board that the engineers wedged behind the glovebox as a test of finger strength and IQ of anybody who dares to remove it.
