Hi all I've got this problem with my freelander, the tailgate door actuator is making a whirring sound or an mental clicking sound. I've replaced the actuator itself but its not the solution.
It stops making the sound when I turn the headlights on bizarly
I made this video on my phone so you can hear the full horror! now hosted on youtube so no popups

Thanks for warning about the popups, shalln't view sorry! Not that I could help probably - other than to say is the door mechanism responds to the lights being turned on - then you have a short somewhere!

Why not put it on YouTube?

Check the wiring near the number plate light to see if worn wire arcing near the actuator or locking mechanism.

hi the number plate lights both work I have noticed the reversing lights don't work and I've changed the switch on the gear box too

Sounds like a constant feed. Do you have a multimeter to check the connectors also how did the old one fail? Could be a duff wire or the actuator is duff not unheard of.

I've got a multi meter I'll have to check it at the weekend
