Hi guys I'm new to the freelander world and have a few questions about things I would like to do to it.
First I have a 01 freelander TD4 3 Door. Hard top comes off. So how do I fit roof rails I only see place for one over front doors. Next question can I fit a newer model front bumper say a 04/05 without any hassle. Thanks for any help
 
Bumper is'nt a strait swap. The body needs to be modified to fit the headlights.
The roof rails bolt on above the does at the front and above the tail lamps at the back.
 
Are they called roof rails ? I've checked other sites and they just show ordinary roof rails that go on top of bar. But not the actual bar that bolts onto vehicle. If you know what I mean
 
Before you spend money on bling make sure your transmission is in good order :). You may have already done so but just thought I'd give you a heads up. You'd be well peeved if you spent that cash on roof rails and then found out you need a new VCU ;).

After 2 years of Freelander ownership I'll let you know if I ever get to that stage :(

Defo, what he said. I spent cosmetic money on my interior fer odds and sods when I first got it and the only really good thing is the factory mid line door protectors, oh and the dash top cup holder gismo - both proper useful items.
 
When all the mechanical stuff is sorted, I recommend side protection bars or steps.
A large Merc van's steering collapsed and it used the side of my (parked) FL as a fender.
Because of my side steps the only damage was a slightly scuffed wheel, which polished out.

The only problem with the bars is that people try to step on them and slip off, although that can be amusing...
 
VCU is ok at the moment ! But I have been told I should consider taking the back shaft off during the summer months. That it would be easier on tyres and stuff. Has anyone done this ? Or what do you's think of this idea ??:confused:

HA ha, just put mine back on. Truth - so long as you make the effort to put it back on for the winter unlike me, taking (the whole prop) off for the summer is a no brainer. Takes load off transmission, engine and tyres. This assumes you don't go off roading during the summer of course! Re fitted mine mainly cos I may be selling her.

Oddly, removing the prop seems to make no difference to MPG, although the car roles much more freely and drives like any front wheel drive car - cant explain this but there you go. During the recent snow, I just about got away with it - not as good as with full 4x4 of course but the TC still works on the front wheels.

When we had really bad snow a couple of years back, again I had neglected to re fit prop - got me in big bother with wifey - she has her own 4x4 these days!!:)
 
I'm told that type of roof is mostly found on Freebies which started their lives as a passenger car (i.e. most likely to still have glass instead of panel at rear quarter and just a carpet rather than the wooden floor) The roof (with the 4 door contour) is made to increase the volume to make it qualify for a commercial.

Good luck with yours it will prove to be an amazing machine by time. Just as other have said. check the VCU
