Hi I am considering buying a freelander 2 S four wheel drive but I am a bit dubious because it hasn't any terrain response, daft question this will it still perform in the snow as did my previous freelander 1.Regards Martin.

mine was as good in the snow as my Freelander 1 if not better. Never gave a thought to terrain response (or lack of).

will still perform like any other 4x4 without terrain response, terrain response just optimises things like gear changes (if auto) launch rpm etc for the conditions.
I've only ever been in one with terrain response and it was fantastic, but my FL1 is also darn good in the snow

and because it has no terrain response, the engine is always on song, no detuning depending what mode you select.

Terrain response does things like not shoving loads of power in when pulling away in snow, to avoid wheel spin. You probably already do that yourself anyway. There are other features it does but a lot of it can be done yerself anyway. But if you have it you have the option to use it.

Ok. But with hill descent and a ligh foot surely thats achievable anyway?

It is indeed, although neither of them will help on sand driving when you need to keep the revs up etc, although how many FL2 drivers take their cars on deep sand is debatable

Without low range seems a little pointless. My folks have it on their hse.

yeah my dad has it on his HSE too, but his is an auto so auto compensates the torque converter to suit. dont know how it works on a manual or to what extent
