I believe the problem is with the CV joint but can't find much information regarding replacement online, RAVE or haynes. Price difference between CV kit and driveshaft is £15, is it an easier job to just replace the whole driveshaft ? both RAVE and haynes say to remove caliper and ABS sensor. Is this necessary ?

Thanks,

Will

1. With car on ground, pry out centre hub cap to expose hub nut - slacken, but do not remove.
2. Jack up and remove wheel.
3. Unbolt caliper and hang out of the way.
4. Remove ABS sensor as it's at risk of damage. If it won't come out easily, just leave it and proceed with caution.
5. Undo and release lower ball joint.
6. Undo and release track rod end (makes it easier, not essential).
7. Give outer driveshaft end a tap and release from hub.
8. Prepare to catch IRD oil, and carefully pry out inner driveshaft end.
9. For the sake of others after you, smear some copper grease on the hub end of the new driveshaft before fitting, and reverse procedure to install new shaft.

If I've missed anything I'm sure others will comment.

Avoid cheap drive shafts as they often cause vibration.
Are you sure that the bang is the drive shaft and not the anti roll bar hitting the strut? This is very common and generally affects the nearside.

Thanks for the replies guys, thought it was the anti roll bar drop link so changed it, the top bolt just span someone had killed the inner thread so no Allen key would fit and the shaft had been rounded off. To add to my woes the bottom nut was stuck, tried everything and didn't budge had to buy a dremel to cut them off. Nearly cried took me a whole day to change it and didn't help noise still there. I've got a driveshaft coming from J and R, they are really cheap but from looking around on forums a lot of people said they were good. On a separate issue Nodge sorted all the fault codes apart from P0100 and P0110, come straight back when cleared, am I right in thinking I need a new MAF or harness?

Before changing the driveshaft thought i'd take it to the local indie to have a quick check, turns out the banging is from the exhaust hitting the engine. Rubber jammed in as a quick bodge, will have a look at the engine mounts to try for the proper fix.
