Hi guys.

am new to all this. Have just bought a Freelander 1. But cigarette light does not work. The 15 amp fuse is ok. Do I need a new lighter or am I missing something ?

thanks

Mine wouldn't work and was the actual lighter that had broke.

Fittiing the one off my parts car fixed it.

Mind you I couldn't get it out without breaking the clips that holds it in place. So I plugged my dash cam into it, wrapped the lot in bubble wrap and just leave it laying on the "transmission tunnel".

Ahh thanks guys. I checked slot 9 in the glove box - it was fine and the other adjacent ones. Had a look at the fuses under the bonnet. There is a 15 a fuse missing but I don’t think it is involved. my mechanic says it is a common problem that the cig lighter breaks at the back and says it will cost about £70 to fix.

That hurts - gonna have to start fixing bits myself .....

I'd get another mechanic, as it's 30 minutes work to change the cigarette lighter, and about £15 for a really good quality one.

Took me frigging hours to not fix it.

Admittedly almost all of that was trying to strip down the consoles/dash of the parts car to its cigar lighter out unbroken. Most of that was trying to get the stereo housing out - which I did, but it didn't look much like a stereo housing any more! Plus I believe its impossible to reuse a lighter as you have to break the clips to get it out.

All in all £15 would have been a better option :D

There are also 2 power sockets, so 2 fuses. Make sure you are checking the correct one.
@Nodge68 Hello Nodge68 would you know where the 2nd fuse shall be? According to handbook it's fuse 10 under the steering wheel and couldn't find another one so far. Not inside not under bonnet. Thank you
