i own a series 3 and after i have put a bikini top on it for the summer (hopefully will get on) i want to put 2 forward facing seats in the back tub. i wondered if anyone knew the legalities of having forward facing seats with an open top landy... i.e. do i have to have seat belts or will a lap strap do etc... if you could shed any light on this i would be grateful!!

Bench seats don't need seatbelts if fitted before a certian date, don't take up as much room and you can fit more people in the back.

Bench seats don't need seatbelts at all regardless of the date they were fitted.

As the seats weren't fitted as a factory fit option then no you don't need to fit seatbelts Also I suspect that as it is a series it will predate compulsory rear seatbelts aanyway.

You can carry a child on a bench seat but you can't use a seatbelt or child seat, if you do.

and if i have bench seats with the top off thats all legal? i dont want mister plod giving me a fine or anything silly like that!?

I've got forward facing seats and they are a pain in the arse. You can only get in the back with one seat folded down and then the second passenger has to squeeze in and then fold down the second seat. To get out you have to reverse the process.

No surprise that I've removed them and once I've done my LPG conversion I'll be fitting bench seats.
