Hello everyone, new member here dipping my toes into the Land Rover world! Just picked up a 1990 Defender 90, my first go at this iconic brand. It’s a 2.5 diesel, and while it runs, it’s definitely a project. The previous owner used it for farm work, so it’s got that well-worn vibe — think dents, scratches, and a fair bit of rust on the bulkhead. I’m based in a small village, so I’m hoping to turn this into a reliable off-roader for muddy tracks and weekend adventures. I’ve been lurking on LandyZone for a bit, and I’m blown away by the expertise here. I’m handy with a wrench but new to Land Rovers, so I’m eager to learn the ropes. First up, I need to sort out the electrics some lights flicker, and the heater’s dead. Any advice on common wiring issues for Defenders? Also, what’s the best approach for rust repair on a budget? I’d love to keep the rugged look but make it solid for years to come. Planning to add some basic mods like a snorkel and maybe a roof rack. Excited to be part of this community and looking forward to the tips (and the legendary LandyZone banter). Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to the forum and land rover ownership (good luck 🤣) . With the electrics they are quite basic. Check the fuses and earth's ( these are normally the problem).
Can you weld yourself? It's common for the bulkhead to rust, mainly footwells and the top corners around the vents (repair panels can be bought for this).
