Good Evening all.

I am looking for a 130 and I have stumbled upon this (see pictures below).

  • Price 6k
  • 200 thousand miles
  • 2 owners
  • year 1996
  • MOT until Aug 2014

I know the doors require replacing and I am waiting for a reply email from the seller as I think it has had a new head gasket and brakes replaced back in 2012.

Any other information as I get it I shall post.

Doors are easy to fix. Looks quite clean and straight underneath, bit of surface rust. Underside of chassis looks good, but check on top, around the spring hangers, and in the rear chassis legs and xmember.
Can you drive the vehicle? That is the best test of many things.Engine, clutch, trans, steering.
Don't know if that is a good price or no, seems a lot for a nearly twenty year old motor with 200k on it, but then again, there probably aint many of them about, so maybe that is what they cost.

Thank you for the swift reply Turbo man.

I have asked for more high res photo graphs and I shall specifically ask about the rear cross member and I did not know about the spring hangers and the chassis legs.

Out of interest I believe the rear cross member is fairly easy, cut the old one off and weld a new one in its place?

How about the spring hangers and rear chassis legs. Are these items available to buy and then cut the old ones off and weld new ones on?

The vehicle is about six hours away so I hope to basically do all the ground work and investigation remotely and then see if there are any companies that will look the vehicle over.

To be fair if the seller is genuine I shall ask for 12 months MOT as I think this will be a huge re-assurance.

I am buying this cheap as I desperately need something for towing and until my van sells I only have bread, water and a couple of buttons other wise I would probably be looking at a 130 in and around the 10k price(dependant on what I get for the van and how long it takes to sell)!

Regards

130 wannabe!

Anything can be done, but it all takes time and money, and if you have paid out good money yu don't really want to be spending more straightaway, and not having use of the vehicle.
If you are towing you will probably need a new clutch soon, unless it has been done recently. Heavy towing puts a lot of strain on the engine, and especially the trans.Old clutches often don't handle it well.
I just bought a v8 auto disco for towing, only an old thing with a few years life in it, but it does tow the cattle box hansum! :) Just over a grand with a years ticket.

Where is the vehicle? You might find a helpful member who would be willing to go and take a look for you.
