I just watched this and it talks about both the N57 and M57 BMW engines and them catching fire in police cars all too frequently.

This is down to the dpf i think. Bomb up n down the motorways etc.. then sit for hours at the side of the road with the engine running, lights on etc

Plod in many regions have withdrawn those vehicles from use.

Saw/read about it somewhere, they recalled all the affected cars and instead of selling them on, drilled the engine block so it couldn't be used.. before selling it on.
In reality, if driven in an expected way by average Joe, it would have been perfectly fine
