i have decided to change the engine on my fl1 td4 i had changed the crank breather and an oil change and done a leak back test also replaced the injector copper sealing washers got leaking injectors sorted and stopped oil coming out the dipstick but engine runs like a bag of nails still not revving black smoke from the exhaust thought id leave it running for 20-30 mins then turned it off waited about 10 mins then checked my oil level there was none showing on the dipstick my mum turned and said to me that it kept running out of oil with her

so yesterday managed to get hold of a rover 75 for much cheapness with a good engine in it is there a lot of engine parts to swap over or do all the parts fit the freelander thanks

good luck with this and i would also be very interested to see how the 2 x engines compare

as i think the m47 engine is also fitted in the bmw 320 , dont know any other car there fitted to apart from the rover 75

the guys on here will be able to tell u though

The sump is like to be different, same with the engine mount. There may even be a few sensors with different connectors. Just get the two engines side be side and swap over what you need

Arent you just a bit curious as to where the oil is disapearing to ?, to lose that much oil in so short a time your engine should be kicking out more smoke than a Chinese power station !!

you Did dip the dipstick more than once hopefuly ?

cause the level might show low or none .. if the dipstick is not removed first .. then replaced .. and removed again for a level check ..
