Hi all, I have a very intermittent problem with my RRC 92. Every now and then the engine warning light comes on and the engine cuts out. This sometimes does not happen for weeks n weeks then will happen three times in a day then nothing again for weeks. Any ideas where to start folks?

cheers, Stu.

Which warning light?

Does it restart again ok?
cutting out when driving along or on idle?
Engine cold or hot?
Whats the weather doing when it happens? (sounds daft but if its wet, could be a short??)

As much info and circumstances helps

Restarts no problem, happens when driving along, engine hot, weather today wet n horrible but has happened when weather is dry.

I had this in my '93 Classic.....

Now heres the thing...

my Classic was on Gas...it never happened on Gas only on Petrol....

I figured it to be something amiss with the injection system as the gas would use a ring on the intake (Single Point System) so the injectors weren't used....and it never happened on gas...so it must have been injector/fuel related....

my thoughts was the 'Engine Running' signal the ECU gets from the Coil LT side....

When the coil fired a signal was sent via a white wire..(it might have been white with black tracer)..through a small resister to the ECU....

My resistor was near to the MAF...tiny little thing inline with the wire....

My thoughts were with this resistor going faulty or a poor signal from coil to ECU or the MAF on its way out.....

This may not even help, but I would say it is injector related...

Engine is 3.9 efi, problem happens on lpg (multipoint) and on petrol. Happened 3 times today so becoming much more frequent. Not happy. Anyone near inverness got a code reader i could borrow n plug in?

Ok update, wiggled every wire under bonnet to see if some vibration on bust wires was causing problem.......nada.

Had a wiggle under drivers seat......voila engine cuts out orange warning light comes on.

Restart engine and do it again........engine cuts outs immediately.

Restart engine and try again............nada no amout. Of wiggling will get the engine to cut out.

So now ive used up all my technical terms i guess i have a loose/broken wire under my seat somewhere. Now to track it down.

Please let me find it soon, its snowing and blowing a hoolie outside.

Hmppppppppppppppphhhhhhhhhh. Ok new one, maybe same one.

Engine cut out dead, pulled into side of road. Wiggled all wires again nothing. Car would turn over fine but just not start. Called AA, got bored. Went over all wiring in engine bay. Found that the wire to from the MAF was almost parted at the connector only being held by single strand of copper wire. This i re terminated and reconnected. Whilst in the process of doing this my A&R power amp touched against one of the coil terminals and caused a a small spark.
Car still wouldnt start. Had a look at fusebox to find fuse C3 burnt out, replaced and car started immediately. Cancelled nice man from AA.
so..................... Would the car have stalled and cut out because of the MAF then refused to start. Then...................would i have burnt out the C3 because i caused the short while reterminating the MAF wire?
Does any of this make sense (only ask as ive had a Christman whisky and im confusing myself with a confusing description) :beer2::confused2::blah::speakenglish:
