Hi All

I have just had my 2000 P38 4.6 converted to LPG and it runs as sweet as a nut. I am just wondering if I should uprate the type of coolant used to a racing brand for increased protection due to the increaded temperature of gas?? or so I am told.

I don't think you'll notice any difference. It may burn a bit hotter, but your existing cooling system will not even notice it as long as it's in good order.

If you wanted to do anything just increase the mixture volume. A 50/50 mixture of Glycol will raise the boiling point of unpressurised water from 212 F to 225 F. The more Glycol the higher the boiling point. The pressurised cap on your system raises the boiling point to 242 F. So the coolant mix only comes into it's own if you lose pressurisation. If you lose pressure with the coolant temp at say 230 F, it's going to boil anyway. Best method is regular checks.

or you could just make sure its full of coolant ,oil ,rad is hot all over

That's what i meant by regular checks James. I know you would not be surprised by the fact that quite a lot of people hardly ever open the bloody bonnet. Then they wonder why things go wrong.:):):)
 
true it gets me that some are so adamant that you use only new genuine nuts /bolts then ask if seized ****ed calier is all right if cleaned a little, or google mechanics as in a recent thread about 1.8 k series alot of **** take in not good manner then **** from google they wouldnt understand

Well that is what the computer world is coming to. If it is printed, or u-tubed then it must be true. Practical experience doesn't seem to count these days ,they just need to remember who wrote the books and the info they are getting.

I am fully conversant with the nuts and bolts, she’s a minter and only been serviced by supplying main dealer since new. Just heard various rumours regarding coolant with LPG and new to the LPG game so thought I’d ask you guys. Cheers :)

Hmm it may seem that way, but you can't beat advice from people that really do know what they're talking about which is why these forums are so useful - any bad advice usually gets corrected by the experts.

Well he could put pure Glycol in it and raise the boiling point to 387 F. But you really would not want your engine running at that temp. The Glycol content prevents freezing in winter and aids heat transfer in summer. The none boiling over is taken care of by the pressure cap. So basically you don't want any leaks that bleed the pressure away. Regular checks on hoses and a static test now and again does that. Maintenance is king.
