Help:-

While driving home last night Battery Charging red warning light came on - no deterioration of lights etc. Checked Battery this AM - 12.5V, Started vehicle slight voltage drop but no apparent increase in voltage - is this an alternator problem?

If there is still a belt on the alternator, then yes.

Or a belt tensioner not working slipping but you should hear that normally

The voltage should go up with the engine running - something nearer 14V. Sounds like an alternator failure.

Check all leads on the alternator, make sure non are loose sometimes the thin lead from the ignition (exciter input) can break due to vibration (obvious on some alternators less on others) if alls in place then alternator most likely knackered.
