Hi guys,

New hear but have allways look through the forums and found some fantastic info!

I have a 1998 p38 4.0 auto for about 4 months and its been brilliant up until now!

Last week I noticed the number plate lights would stay on after the car is off and locked up. Now, last night without being used in a fue days the brake lights have came on aswell. I have took a look and the 2 fuse boxes I know about (under the bonnet and under the drivers seat) and can't see any dampness. This has rendered the car out of action. I was had a look though the forums and haven found much (apoligys if I missed anything!)

Any suggestions? Lol
Is there a fuse box I have missed at all?

Thanks in advance

David :bounce:

Check your drivers footwell carpet for dampness, even slight, it could be moisture in the BeCM or also check the rear light clusters for water ingress....

I would hedge a bet and say it is more than likely a damp BeCM which sits under the Drivers seat....with the moisture caused by leaking Pollen filter housing, a leaky windscreen seal or the heater O rings....

That about covers it:D

Thanks very much for the response!

The carpet feels only very slightly damp. Il pop in the dehumidifier!
Anything I can to to dry the BeCM?

Cheers

Disconnect the battery (make sure you have your EKA & radio codes) remove and check all BECM connectors for corrosion. Remove BECM, take lid off, place in a warm place for 24 hours, airing cupboard if you have one is ideal, while you have the lid off, look for corrosion on the printed circuit boards.
Fix the leaks so it all stays dry.

Hi guys!

Thanks for the advice, I remove the BeCM and dried it out and re installed it.
The number plate lights are now off and the brake lights are off nowl!!!
But, now when i switch the lights on the brake lights also come on. I haven't had the chance to check the rear light clusters for the wet due to the rain.
Any ideas on this one? haha

Cheers

I would suspect corrosion in the connectors causing signals to track across pins, either that or your BECM is not completely dry and/or has internal corrosion.
