well,
Just made my diagnostic cable for EAS and downloaded free software, fingers crossed it will work when I plug it in tomorrow!!
After taking my P38 up to local Land Rover Indy and his Diagnostic's would not "read" the EAS or Engine!
I tried my diagnostics which "read" the ECU but is not able to read EAS, so went on internet and found a great site on how to make your own..:)

Sounds like your socket might have some corroded pins. Good luck with your cable, but I suspect it may have the same problem as the indy's kit.
 
Hi mate,
I have Sykes diagnostics and that "read" my ECU ok, I have made the lead and it works a treat, can recommend anyone making one, very easy!!
