Hi all, just had the EAS fail. On the M4, it had gone into the 50+ mode and then all the lights on and the "Slow Max speed 35MPH" came on. No warning before that. B**gger! Anyone know of somewhere near Swindon to get it fixed? How much is it going to cost me? Thanks very much.

Repair price depends on whats gone wrong, I'm sure someone will arrive soon to give you a run down on that....what year / model do you have? The airbags have a lifespan of around 8-10 years max, if you're lucky, so these may need changing. Alternatively, the compressor may need attention or the height sensors. Either way, you will need to plug in to Faultmate or Rovercom or the main stealers computer at about £70 a pop so the fault can be isolated and reset once repaired.......EAS faults can be really expensive and some people rip out the kit and go for springs, but part of the pleasure of a P38 is the suspension, in my opinion, so I would never do that.....

Hope you get it sorted, can't think of a worse ride than a Range Rover on its bump stops!!! I had an aftermarket kit installed which allows you to inflate the airbags at any garage air pump after removing the fuse under the passenger seat of course, then the ride becomes more tolerable until it can be repaired!

Thanks for that. It's a 1999 4.6 Vogue. I don't have access to the computer stuff, so I guess it's off to the dealers. I was hoping someone might know an indie local to me that might save me some cash!

Hmmm. I've got the same model - you can buy cheaply off ebay a cable and software with which you can link up the RR to a laptop and check out the faults on the EAS. You can also buy a device called an EAS KICKER for about £100 or so which will do the same but you don't need a laptop. If you want to keep the p38 in the long term, then one of these or even a Faultmate SV would be a good investment and stop all the £70 payments to link up to the stealers computer on many occasions over the years.....

I changed all 4 airbags, (approx £300) plus a height sensor and a compressor refit - total cost was about £600, plus the £100 for the manual inflation kit and its fitting.

Result = no more EAS faults at the moment and a great ride.....

I changed all my airbags and the compressor was new before setting off to the UK on holiday with my caravan.
All went well untill descending the Pennines I got an EAS fault message and the suspension locked at normal height, no problem as with the caravan I lock the suspension anyway. All was well until I got off the motorway at Derby and down it went to the bump stops, it's even more unpleasant with the caravan on the back.
So it's Sunday, Moday is a bank holiday, no chance of a dealer being open, ferry to catch early Tuesday AM. Fortunately I had my laptop with me and the connector cable so I used RSW's free software and unlocked it. Turned to just be a bad connection on the front offside height sensor. Sorted that and it behaved all the way home.

My P38 refused to lift off the bump stops after replacing the 2 rear airsprings. I bought a OBD-II to serial lead off ebay and used Storey Wilson's software to reset the EAS fault. All fixed for less than £15.
