Hi All,

Well, so far no major hiccups with my 'new to me' P38, but I have a couple of (hopefully) easy questions...

1) Seat memory and electric mirror on n/side. I can store the seat settings in either memory 1 or memory 2 - but the n/side mirror returns to a set position after every 'reverse' gear selection. Basically it refuses to 'store' the new position along with the seat. What am I missing?

2) When locking/unlocking with the r/f fob, there is no audio or visual sign that alarm has set/cleared. Short of locking someone in the car, how do I determine that the alarm is working ok? The LED on the dash flashes fast for a few seconds and then slows to a regular pulse, but no hazzard lights or 'plip' as with most alarms. Is this common or is it something that's been turned off perhaps with a diagnostic unit etc?

The flash of indicators or side lights when locking or unlocking can be turned on or off with diagnostics.

Thanks Datatek - I thought that might be that case, but worth knowing

Diagnostics on my shopping list, but new set of rubber, SS exhaust and possibly a winch all bigger priorities at the moment... I'd prefer the laptop based diagnostics, but not got around to looking at software and making cables yet...

There is no software apart for the EAS or ELM for the V8. Laptop + server = Faultmate MSV 2 or stand alone = Nanocom Evo both from Blackbox Solutions Ltd - Designers and manufacturers of the best vehicle diagnostic tools.

Ah ok - thanks again. I've seen the black box kit mentioned and the green handheld unit whose name escapes me at the moment, but thought the bus was ODBII? I've got bits to make the EAS cable and bookmarked the download site, but as I've no issues yet not got around to doing that. The main diagnostics would be more use at the moment as I could perhaps figure the intermittent handbook on the climate unit, but it's not a pressing problem at the moment anyway.

The P38 was one of the first 'electronic' cars and the OBD protocols hadn't yet been agreed. So most fault readers might read the engine ECU but run into trouble with the rest. Obviously there are exceptions but most of these are at garage-only prices.

The dipping mirrors are a regular fault i just turned mine off
Cant remember how to do it but can remember its a 10second job
It was somtjing like hold both memory bottons whilst in reverse with ignition on engine off or somthing like that

The only problem I found is if the battery goes flat or you disconnect it it reverts back to mirror reverse tilt ON
The obvious fix for this is to set the reverse tilt position to your normal driving position

Thanks for the replies - I'll have a play tomorrow!

The dipping itself isn't a problem, just that it returns to the 'wrong' place

I thought it must be something I was doing wrong, but I guess she's just a bit forgetful... Old age I guess - much like me...
