hi all

I've just bought my first discovery, its a mk3 but it only came with one key and the fob that they key is mounted in has also seen better days. I also have noticed it is sluggish locking and unlocking the vehicle . Had a quick google to see about additional key but didn't seem to turn any thing up. So appart from going to a dealer is there any options ?

Thanks
Matt

hi

welcome

may i ask year is ur D3 please

u can buy another key off ebay. that has the circuit board for around £40-50 quid, then get the blank cut , that costs around £10

will req programming

keyfob has to be 433mhz

dealer with the cost of purchase and programming will be in the £270-320 figure

u can buy just a case if u wish to tidy ur keyfob up for now , but always advisable to get a spare

the key fobs are induction charging , so as u put the key in the ignition it's charges it

have u tested the standing and running volts of ur car battery , possibly the battery is getting tired, D3 are very power hungry so a good battery is vital

where abouts in the u.k. are u and any pics of the disco plse

there are a few of us D3 owners on here so please feel free to ask away and will help u all we can

Hi Gary

Thanks for the reply, it's a 2006 wow I though a dealer solution would be expensive but that ludicrous.

I'm not the most technical or diy competed person in the world so not sure about checking the battery but my step son is an apprentice sparky so will mention this to him re the battery as guess he might ha a meter or something that we can check that with. Though I have managed to fit a new gear leaver skirt to it with the help of utube.

Assume any key cut place could cut the blank ? For programming would that need to be via dealer or is there any other way?

I'm based down in Suffolk and will look to add a snap to my profile once I've got a decent one

Thanks
Matt

hi matt

what u wish to establish is if ur alternator is all ok , so with the engine off to check the volts and then also with the engine running

rough guide want standing 12.3 volts , running 14 .0 volts

yes an independent garage can program the keyfob for u , around 50-60 quid

not all locksmiths are able to cut the key , if u have a search of ur area via google

u don't have to go to a dealer

have u also checked that the cam belts have been replaced , need to be done 105,000 miles or 7 x years

there have been issues with the oil pump cover, if it hasn't been changed , highly recommend to get it done

done a buyers guide on this section, giving u an idea of what are weak points etc

hope that helps
