I have a 2001 Vogue p38 That i'm hopefully restoring back to its former glory.

Her mileage is 125k, i'm not looking at this car as an investment opportunity or anything, but does mileage matter with a restoration?

Is it worth restoring a range rover with this mileage?

Odd question! i know.

"Restoring back to its former glory," as there's no more information on what you will be doing, I'll take that statement as that will be back to the vehicles showroom condition so why do you think a high number on the speed is important?

High millage like yours has hardly broken in a mere pup just getting over bedwetting stage compared to others. The main thing is that the Engine healthy and well maintained while the rest of the body is also kept cleaned.

I think mileage is irrelevant unless you are after a museum piece. A well serviced and looked after vehicle with 250k is worth as much as a neglected 50k one IMO

Ahh yes, Monte, lovely colour, difficult to tell from here but it looks pretty good, if there's nothing major then a pro detailer will make it look like almost new, for a mere few hundred foldings.

Her biggest cosmetic flaw is the entire rear wing.

Its full of filler lol i'm considering having the entire panel replaced

The rest of the paintwork is ok'ish just a few blemishes stone chips lifting paint etc etc

Hmmm, 125k does not come along without something eh,

You could go thousands deep mechanically now, or if your vain like me you do the bodywork first, then it will mentally be much easier to finance the mechanicals 'as and when' because the mint body already gives you that feeling that cannot readily be described .......or hidden

I don't plan on selling it.

So i will probably end up sinking thousands into it.

Anywhoo its better to spend money on a Big 4x4 than on the "other things" people my age are getting into

I'd prefer low mileage and it is possible if you wait because so many are out there. Petrols tend to need HG replacing at 120k miles or so but then so does the diesel FIP. Higher mileage means everything has that bit more worn, especially bushes and bearings. That means nasties like the radius arm bushes, hubs (or just the bearings if you're feeling lucky), steering box (possibly pump too) and Hardy-Spicers, possibly even VCU/diffs. Then there's the timing chains on both petrol and diesel. You'd be amazed how much difference changing that makes. So there are lots of reasons to try and keep the mileage low. ANd that excludes the usual service items (in which I include gearbox fluids, air-springs etc). Of course, if all those jobs have already been done then so much the better ... but were they done Properly?!

Headgaskets are questionable at the moment

VCU is definitely knackered

Lower ball joints are shot

Rear bumper mount has rotted off the chassis, bumper currently held on one side with a ziptie lol.

Exhaust need replacing, janspeed SS system hopefully lol.

sunroof is heavily corroded

Maf sensor shot

IACV is iffy

etc etc list goes on lol

But it is a restoration so can't complain!

Mileage only "matters" if it "matters" to you.
If the basics are sound or can be made sound then the rest is just normal "keeping it going" as best one can.
Mine's an old-un like yours and I think it will see me out.

At 125,000 your car has done far less than the average 10,000 miles a year and cannot be regarded as an high miler.
