Hello,
First time poster!
My dads 2004 landmark is due MOT shortly and noticed his discs and pads are right on the limit (front and back)!
I do my own brakes - have an Audi with quattro and electronic handbrake which is a nightmare! I'm guessing the old landy is a breeze in comparison ?

What brand disc and pad would everyone recommend ? Worth going genuine or not ?
Having had several bad experiences with Pagid, and Mintex being a poor brand in the Audi world - any other OEM equivalent for the Disco ?

I like to torque things up correctly - I've done a bit or research, are these figures correct front and back ?
Caliper 30nm
Caliper brakcet 175nm

Not had to do mine yet, but in general I usually stick to AP Lockheed, TRW, Brembo etc. Mind you, these days you're not really sure if its still the same company making stuff or somebody else that just bought the rights to the name and turning out crap.
 
Mintex are original equipment pads on the D2 (sold as part of the Girling / TRW caliper assemblies) & perform well - albeit they generate a fair amount of dust.
Not sure who was original equipment for discs - maybe Delphi.

There isn't much choice!
Paddock spares have the whole set for £140 which seems cheap - mintex.

Apart from mintex I'm struggling - seem to be plenty grooved discs around, but these would be fairly pointless on a disco!

One other question if anyone knows - are the rear pistons push in or twists ? I seem to remember the handbrake is on the transfer box not rear calipers ?

I was weary of the Britpart axle sets however having now done 30000miles with them and had no problems.
I would buy them again for the money they have served me well and believe me no-one is more sceptical of Britpart than me.
I did the calipers, discs and pads.
 
By the way, about the torques(from the book):
Discs
front:
Fit brake disc to drive flange, fit screw and
tighten to 13 Nm (10 lbf.ft).
Clean mating faces of caliper and hub.
Fit caliper, and tighten bolts to 175 Nm (129
lbf.ft).
Fit road wheel(s) and tighten nuts to 140 Nm
(103 lbf.ft).

rear:
Fit brake disc to drive flange, fit screw and
tighten to 13 Nm (10 lbf.ft).
Clean mating faces of caliper and hub.
Fit caliper and tighten bolts to 95 Nm (70 lbf.ft).
Fit road wheel(s) and tighten nuts to 140 Nm
(103 lbf.ft).

Calipers:
Position caliper housing to carrier, align flats on
guide pins with caliper housing.
Fit guide pin bolts and tighten to 30 Nm (22
lbf.ft).
Clean banjo bolt and fit new sealing washers.
Position hose to caliper and tighten banjo bolt
to 32 Nm (24 lbf.ft).
Remove clamp from brake hose.
Bleed brake system.

Cheers for the link and torques - was struggling to find parts from one supplier. Discs/pads all round - disc retainers and new set of sliders/boots for £139! ordered.

Just need to sort out the 3 amigos next :rolleyes: but that's another thread for another time!
