hi folks got a 95 disco 300 auto,new n/s calipers front and rear and new goodridge flexi hoses on front bled system and have good brakes then every now again the brake pedal goes hard and pulls to the right after a while its fine any advice would be appreciated cheers sean
 
you should only replace brakes in pairs on each axle ,its not surprising its not pulling square,remove pads and check to see if there is any sign of fluid (dampness) some cheap calipers can leak slightly which also means it can draw in air
 
cheers for the quick reply all the pads were changed but i thought the calipers were ok to replace as needed going to pull pads out

should be done in pairs so that effort is equal both sides ,ive used a lot of cheap calipers and some have required new genuine pressure seals cheap and not a bad job ,more certain than just getting another set

I disagree with this, although in an ideal world it should be done in pairs there is no real neccesity for it to be done like this, we often only replace one caliper and we check every vehicle for brake balance afterwards, never have a problem.

The pulling will be down to imballance, pulling to the right would suggest the NS caliper isnt working correctly, check all brake pads e.t.c. t make sure they are not sticking, also check caliper sliders are not bent or damaged, check brake lines aren't kinked and if there is no visual faults I would suggest to take it into a garage to have it all checked through.

you obviously dont know what 300 calipers are like ,plus 300 been at least 14 years old ,plus the cheaper new ones while been effective arent necessarily the same as genuine ones

Hydralic pressure is a matter of physics, if the pistons are the same size then the same amount of pressure will exert the same amount of force. Doesn't matter about brand or materials, think of the fat syringe thin syringe test from school physics, you can't change it unless you change the piston size I'm afraid, that's te beauty of hydraulics!
 
I recently changed just the N/S calliper and had the same issue. I changed the O/S calliper and tightened both wheel bearings on the front and it now brakes in a straight line.

im quite aware of how hyrdaulics work ,i trained on hydraulic systems amongst others,old calipers seldom work as well as new ones,300 tdi doesnt use single piston type ,and pressure will operate easiest caliper first,and if you had ever fitted the cheap calipers you would know to change both,
 
the o/s caliper is about 2 years old so if i change that 1 in theory i should be able to brake in a straight line. the wheel bearings are tight but not to tight
 
about a month ago it started pulling to the right but only now and again so i changed the front n/s caliper but made no difference checked the rear n/s caliper and that was sticking a bit so i changed that still the same. i put hd springs and shocks on about a year ago the front is all polybushed about 6 months ago and has a heavy duty steering arms that was all done before brakes started playing up. if i brake hard and then when i brake again the brake pedal is very hard and really pulls to the right
 
if you check pads on new calipers ,are they loose ,pistons often retract after operation on the new calipers meaning that side has greater travel ,if you pump brakes does fluid splash up in reservoir ,
 
it has splashed a couple of times when ive been bleeding them and the pads were a little bit loose as i had a look today there was no oil around pistons
 
splashing often indicates poor master cylinder seals check it again,how much were the calipers ,you either have air or too much travel if pedal hardens with second press
 
the caliper was about 60 quid and i renewed the master cylinder seals about a year ago i also tried a second hand master cylinder and that was the same
