Does any one actuall own a Disco 11 V8 ( 2001) with the Romano LPG system that actually works ?
Had 18 months of throwing money at it . Used more gas traveling the N. West looking for some one who actually knows how to set one up than I have used running it for work. Latest purchase- 2 lambda sensors. Slight improvement.
This months tally inc Magnecor leads, clean and check injectors, new plugs ( NGK ), new filters.....all I need now is some one who knows how to use the bloody laptop and the relevant software.

Which Romano system does it have?I had one in earlier this week,4.6 bosch injected RR with a 1 yr old Romano system running badly.Reason I ask is that this one did not directly connect to either Oxygen sensor,it autocalibrated on petrol and piggybacked the petrol injector pulse width to calculate LPG injection(badly)
In the Romano software there is a "modify carb" page where you can alter the fuelling + or - 50% at different speeds/loads.There is also an acceleration enrichment adjustment, which got set on max.By fiddling around with these settings and watching the oxygen sensor activity I was able to make it run pretty much perfectly, but only just. When flat out I had the high speed/full load adjustment on max - it was the only way to get enough gas into it to get the oxygen sensors to switch rich, wheras on a light throttle I had to back off the settings to get the sensors switching properly.
Simple fact is the system isnt good enough to fuel the engine anywhere near as well as the petrol system and in real time will lag slightly behind what the petrol system would be doing.

Its the one with the round black plastic tops with the square black plastic piece underneath them, style of injector.. The last dabbler also enlarged the injectors which he reckoned where too small for the V8.

Hi from NZ! I am surprised at anyone using LPG at all! It stuffs engines as it burns hot, has less power than petrol and takes up too much space! And, the kits seem to cost a hell of a lot. That would be a lot of petrol when you work out all you are paying extra is the differnce between petrol + LPG. Most gave up LPG here unless they do BBIIGG mileage such as cabs etc - oh, and the odd Police car as an experiment.

Petrol now just over £4.00 a gallon - gas around £2.00 a gallon. Don't use it out of choice . With the V8 Auto Disco struggling to do 16 mpg on petrol, it needs to be gas.

That makes sense as they can restrict the gas flow on wide throttle openings, what are the actual issues you have with it ?

10 mpg of gas !!!
Lack of acceleration between 50 and 70. Feels like its having a heart attack at 80mph its so lumpy. A Suzuki Jimney passed me yesterday and I had nothing in reserve at 75 mph!!!. Other than that, its now quite smooth as you set off up to 50

The only way to sort this out is with either a scope on the Oxygen sensors or use Testbook on them, then have a laptop adjusting the LPG settings while an assistant drives. All you need is both sensors to switch rich/lean about once a second at idle and at cruise conditions. The switching should speed up slightly as engine speed goes up.Then when you put your foot down both sensors must switch and stay rich till you back off.On overrun with a warm engine the sensors should stay lean as the fuel should cut right off till the engine gets back near idle. The response to throttle inputs should be near enough instant - this is better viewed on a scope as Testbook lags very slightly.
Dont forget to check how it runs on petrol first - till it will do the above on petrol it is pointless trying to sort the gas, reseting the Ecu's adaptions will allow the engine to run properly on petrol as it will have learnt bad habits from running badly on gas for so long.Your engine has 4 wire Zirconia oxygen sensors so 0v output is lean,0.8v is rich.
The RR I sorted out a few days ago I used testbook on and a second laptop to modify the LPG settings - only because its so difficult to access the oxygen sensor output wires, either at the Ecu or at the sensors themselves. On your disco it is easier as the Ecu is in the drivers footwell, not in a nasty plastic box under the bonnet.
I think setting it up on the road is the only way unless you can do it on a rolling road, but that is costly.
How has it been tuned so far ?

Thanks for the info which I will wave at the next LPG person. It was original tuned with me driving , about six months after the conversion by a former Worldwide Autogas lad who knew his stuff. He has since left and gone to the wilds of Scotland,

Same old story, only as good as the individual doing the job.It might be worth trying to find him again,I have a 4.8 RR in at the moment with various electrical issues, the owner has travelled about 150 each way to get his gas system fitted and tuned in Devon, worth the journey, esp as his car has an oversize engine.
Good luck,hope it gets sorted.
