Hi i after some advice. my difflock wouldn't go in, so i whipped off the old tunnel and exposed the linkage, which seems extremely slack and evidently the problem was the bottom linkage bit.
was wondering where i could get a replacement piece? or if there are suppose to be some bushes in there? like the top part.

Google search the part number - usual parts suppliers (paddocks, craddocks, rimmers, lrdirect) will likely carry

if its the bent piece of round wire, I made my own by heating a 4" nail and bending it to shape, then drilled it to accept split ring, it was'nt that difficult

Yeah, it's the gash bit of wire that's slack.
sounds like a mighty good idea. how well does it work now? couldn't i just take the bent piece of wire off and drill a hole in that? instead of going through the trouble of bending a nail? (don't have a blow torch).

im sure you can, there's many ways of doing it, and in my case i shortened it slightly, to allow it to work better

I think i'll take a crack at that tomorrow then, with some pliers and the kitchen hob

Ok, after an entire evening fettling with it, working my fingers to the bone i've decided it's a pile of ****e* and it's not possible to fix or should i say bodge.. after coming on here i've been looking around and seen that it isn't even the correct linkage for the car? which is probably why it's not working.
It's been bodged at the top with a screw and i can see the mount for the proper linkage on the side of the gearbox!

very frustrating. does anybody know where i could find that linkage?

Mine was not selecting hi and low and nor was the diff lock going in properly.

As above. I checked where the slack was in the linkage and looked at the parts diagram, and identified the worn bits. I also packed some of the joints with washers to take up the slack, and all seems fine now.

From your photos the shiny bolt at the top should be a Clevis pin and split pin, and there should be nylon bushes in the pivot.

Try to get the correct parts list for your year to see what it should have. Possibly the cast arm is an improvement over the bent steel one, but I don't know for sure.

I've got some of the nylon top-hat bushes, I had to buy a pack of ten when I only needed one... PM me your address and I'll get a couple in the post at the weekend.

Hallelujah! I figured it out. For some reason the bottom part of the linkage was bent the wrong way around... put it in the vice and one big mallet latter she's a gooden.
