I removed this tank from my Series 3 when I rebuilt it.

Overall it was in better condition than I thought it would be. There is obviously some surface rust but it is solid with no holes.

The inside is fairly good as well. There are some surface rust marks but no loose rust.

There is a problem though. On the top, I noticed a small crack. See tape measure in photo for an idea of the size.

There is also the issue of rust between the bottom strengthening plate and the tank itself. This would require cutting the plate off and re-welding it to clean it up.

Is this salvageable or should I just scrap it? Round here, any scrap you leave outside the house will be gone within a few hours.

May be worth a repair. I bought a blue box tank and had problems making it fit.

Take off the bottom plate and see whats there.

I had the same problem with the one I bought. I had to enlarge the hole in the tub behind the seat to get it to fit. It only just fit between the outriggers.

Had I known about it I would have probably repaired this one and had it resprayed.

The crack on the top would probably seal with tank putty. It's a bit thin to reliably weld it without burning holes in it.

I to had to enlarge the hole and never did get it to fit without spacers to bolt it up. At the time it was blue box or nothing and I had a very leaky tank.

Great I need a tank for mine, as it is rusted out, and I was going to get a blue box one. Do Sh!tPart do anything that's any good?

my s3 has an aftermarket tank, can't remember the name of the co9mpany but they were Canadian see if I can find the name tomorrow

Some minor adjustments need to be made to some Britpart tanks but given the price, I would rather fit and forget than repair an old one probably to have to do the same over again a few years later.
