Hi I need to renew the exhaust manifold studs but cannot find them anywhere online I was considering using high tensile bolts instead but would like to keep it original.

Has anyone bought new ones or have an alternative to use?

Stud is 55mm overall length with 20mm shank. Size M8.

Thanks.

You guys definitely know your stuff!

Just a random question, been reading about different engines and bolts types etc. Was there a certain year when everything on engines became metric sizes for bolts, washers and O-rings etc? I read that some engines use imperial bolts for certain bits and metric for other more so American applications.

The v8 is a bit of a mish-mash. GEMS is Imperial or a lot of it is and Thor has more metric, maybe all metric.

Are head bolts not still 5/8" AF? Used to hear of people using 16mm twelve point on them and buggering them up.

On Thor? Don't know. The exhaust manifold bolts are metric on the Thor though but imperial on the GEMS.

The Thor head bolts are 14mm head M10x1.5 thread "I believe"

My '91 3.9 was 5/8" AF / 7/16 UNC

They changed to Metric in 95.

IIRC

Pretty sure the GEMS was imperial because I remember getting that socket set out. So that puts the change-over around 1999. My suspicion is that they had a massive spares bin and it took until 1999 before they started to run out of Imperial so the metric slipped in.

Typical LR ;)

About right for LR
