Having a bit of a nightmare trying to find a battery for my 2.5 n/a garages seem to be saying different to what it says online. Thinking about ordering from ebay, any idea on what one i need? Thanks in advance

If the old one was working OK, just get one with the same AH and cranking capacity.

Think mine was out of an Audi 8. Silver something by Botch. He’s all very international is Henry.

Ignore what the garage or online manual tells you. Just measure the space you have to put it in and go to the local battery supplier (agricultural are good) or find an online one. Then find the largest CCA (cold cranking amps) and AH (amp-hour) battery that will physically fit in the space. You cannot have a battery that is too large in terms of capacity and CCA and more of both is a good thing.

Thanks, our local car breakers have one out of a Audi a4 they want £30 comes with a 30day warrenty

I have this one fitted in my series (link) (800CCA 110 AH)and have not had any problems in the last 4 years with it. mine stands for long periods and it has never failed to start. Price has gone up since I bought it but it is still not that expensive considering how important it is in the vehicle.

It doesn't matter what is comes out of it is the power it produces which is important. What are the specs of the audi battery? It takes a lot more power (CCA) to turn over an old 2.5l diesel with 20/50 oil, than is does to turn over a modern 2l running 5/30 oil, and that is before you take into account the 30+ seconds of glow plug power you would need.

If it will fit in, it should work. For how long it will work is another question.
Not long to go until the weather warms up now, so you might get away with it.
What do you mean for how long? Trouble is its always a gamble buying secondhand. Time will tell i suppose

Exactly what you say. A second hand battery is never going to last as long as a new one of the same quality.
So in fact, it may be cheaper to buy new. All depends on how many starts the second hand one has done already.

Am i best off taking it off and keeping in the garage when its really cold, as i dont use the landy daily

It won't do any harm, especially if you give it a trickle charge occasionally while it is off.
But the benefits are limited, because a battery warms itself up when you start cranking the engine.

I fitted a Webasto, its for overnight camping but I've used it a few times in the past couple of weeks when it got really cold. Plenty on e-bay for around £100 and not to hard to fit, but a pain to work out the wiring and reset codes as the used ones are almost always locked out.
