Which part of the frame is rusty? Unless it has rotted away can it not just be cleaned up and repainted?
Whereas you can probably buy the seat frames, but I don't know, it is a fairly involved job to swap the foams and covers across onto new one. It would be quicker to carefully touch up the frames you have.

Thanks. The frames are not rotted away and I admit I have not investigated the task to determine for myself how complex or otherwise this might be. I am sure they will repaint but this would be achieved much more easily with the frame removed from the vehicle, hence my question regarding whether they are interchangeable with the passenger side. If I anticipated I would have no passengers for a few days I could do away with the passenger seat.

If it is only temporary then they should be interchangeable, especially if no center seat is fitted. The rear recline mechanism will be on the inside if you fit the passenger in the drivers position but for a short period this should not cause any issue.
