I have a Defender 2.3 Turbo Diesel which runs very hot on the motorway (almost on red on the temp guage). Consequently the heater produces red hot air after about 20 mins at 60mph. As the summer approaches this is not ideal. Any ideas on a solution?

First off, re-post this in the Defender section mate, some people might see it then
Secondly, if it's a 2.4 and not a 2.5 then it must be almost brand new as they only just brought the 2.4 out in Spring 2007 - ergo it's under warranty and you needn't bother fixing it yerself, just take it back to the stealers and make them fix it fer free.
water pump not working (belt off, or rarely impeller falls off)
coolant not circulating for other reason(s)
coolant level too low (even though heater works)
radiator blocked off (by a polythene bag blown in is common)
kinked hoses to / from radiator
air locks in system .... some need filled and BLED.
Disastrously off timing might make it hot but you would notice the drop in ooomph.
Whatever, fix this soon or risk melting the engine
Weird - first it wuz a 2.4 TD now it's a 2.3 TD - come on mucka make yer mind up! Is it a 2.4 or a 2.5 Turbo? They never did a 2.3 Turbo Doozul - how old is it? What year/reg plate is it on?
