I've got a 2010 Defender 90 and the bonnet keeps popping open onto the safety catch. I've adjusted the length of the pin, the position of the locking mechanism plus the two rubber stops and I still can get it stay close. It clicks down but will pop up due to road vibration on the move or if you manually try and shake or pull the bonnet whilst stationary . Any suggestions ? Do I need to change the pin or locking mechanism . Thanks

Have you got the spring in the right place?
There is a hole in the slide at the opposite end from the cable clamp, and if the spring is in there the bonnet will keep popping (how do I know this?)
I have found that if the spring is attached to the little bracket by the cable end, then everything is OK.
I used a spring from an old mini seat, which I made fit. ;)
Got to admit that it is as fiddly as hell to get it right as you are working blind!
Hope this helps.

Get a bonnet catch like mine, problem solved

This is a picture of what Oldseadog has described. From a 1996 Defender 90, anyway.

You can see the spring Oldseadog described. It's under a lot of tension, or should be! I can see the end of that spring when I open the bonnet.
Don't know if your 2010 model will be the same as this, so hope this helps.

Thanks for that A1203.
It was a bit cool for me to go out and remove the grille off and take some piccies.

A release cable that has gone stiff and is not fully returning can give that problem, but yours is a bit young for that.

Also clean out the pin guide that the locking pin travels into, this can after time fill with mud and crud stopping the pin fully engaging with the locking mechanism.
It is the centre guidupload_2017-1-13_17-29-57.png e in the picture which has a drain hole in it.

Is that because you carry a spare wheel on the bonnet, Mike? I do the same and need to wedge the safety catch open if I need to lift the lid because of the extra weight. I got round this by fitting "rally clips" to the bonnet. Maybe this is an easy fix to the OP's problem?

Ah...just re-read the OP's question...a 2010 model can't carry a spare on the bonnet, can it?
