Help needed !!!

I have a 1990 Def 90 2.5TD, just replaced the battery but in the morning will keep on turning over until battery dies. Good crank on the battery 650.
Next problem that even out after on a run once started it will be the same again next morning - would that be the altenator?

I jump start from my car and it starts within 10 seconds and the battery charges, but as you drive you can see the battery losing amps!!!

Any help is appreciated!

How long are you holding the glow plugs on for before you turn the engine?

check the battery voltage with the engine running at medium revs - should be around 13V plus. Or, take it to halfords, who check the battery and alternator for free for you.
And when you try to start it, do you hold the key in the glow plugs position? You shouldn't need to turn it off to start, just turn the key further. If you are cranking the battery til its dead every day then this will quickly knacker your alternator - the voltage regulator built into it doesn't like having to run electrics and charge a dead battery, especially not daily.

All, many thanks! - changed the plugs today and gave the battery an overnight charge - will check back in in a few days - if no joy going to get altenator checked out (which I think is fine)

Cheers
