Hi guys found a prob with the new engine I fitted to my 90

It's a genuine 200 tdi defender engine and it's runs fine boosts fine and no overheating but there is heavy breathing from cyclone / dipstick / oil filler cap all 3 places are heavy breathing
Any what to check 1st

You could do with running a leak-down test.

Most good garages (diesel specialists even better) will be able to perform one.

It will test the leakage from compressed air in the cylinders - one-by-one.

You can then determine where the gases are escaping, by listening to air coming from the dip stick, breather, exhaust or even the header tank by means of a leaking head gasket.

The test would give you a reading on each cylinder, and inform you which one(s) have worn rings (probably) and just how badly these are effecting your motor.

My mate is goin to test it for me . It doesn't breath in header tank that's all fine inc water system no over heating ect


Do you no what reading I should be getting when I do the test .
