why not just rip out the carpet, lay it out on cardboard to get a template, cut that out, work out where you need folds, get a sheet of 5bar plate, put template on, cut out and bob is your very uncle.
but it'll be rattly, noisy and your feet will slip on it when wet.
plus when you brake, that bottle of beer on your seat will fall to the floor and smash.

For that chequerplate look, with sound proofing, grip and easy fitting, get yourself down to carpet superstore and buy some chequerplate lino. Job done.
