Hi all.

By accident, I discovered that someone had connected together the Brown and Pink/Red wires of the Data Link Connector, using a resistor. After reading through the ETM, it seems that the Brown wire is a +12V fused feed, straight from the fuse box and that the Pink/Red wire is the K diagnostics line that goes into other ECUs like HEVAC/ABS/ECM.

I have no idea why someone would do this but the presence of the resistor indicates me that it was, at least, someone with a clue about the electrics in these.

Everything seems to be working just fine (apart from cruise control but that's an old problem).

Can someone shed some light on this ?

I have a vague recollection that this was an official mod.:eek:
 
STC3182 resistor kit was fitted to early diesels vehicles to prevent battery drain by ensuring BECM closed down properly. See service bulletin NRR/86/14/95/EN. Dated 04/10/95.

I knew you would be along to confirm or refute Tony, seems my memory is not so bad after all:)
 
You Sirs, are a wealth of information :)

According to the bulletin (that SaintV8 had uploaded to another thread on this same subject, which google failed to find for me previously) mine shouldn't have been affected by that battery drain, as it's a later model. Probably someone had battery drain problems and a LR mechanic tried this as a fix.

Does anyone have any pointers on where to find all of these service bulletins ? My copy of RAVE doesn't have them :/

Down load RAVE from the link in my EAS "How to". That has them. As far as i am aware only applies to 1995 diesel models.

Different subject - so start a new thread :D

The P38 doesn't use a CANbus system I believe...the L322 uses a CAN (and several other buses) and then from 2005/6 onwards it used a CAN and a MOST (plus the other buses)

Which speed sensor? There are a few, one in transfer gearbox, one in gearbox and one on each wheel. None of which use Canbus as far as i know.

Road speed is fed into the Hevac ECU. But don't ask which wire it is can't find it on schematics. It will be one of the feeds from the BECM no doubt, but which one i don't know.

I can find that wire but if I connect to it the sat nav does not read the speed sensor
 
Sat nav is a black art to me. The only wire i can see on sat nav schematics that is common to Hevac and sat nav computer is a yellow wire from pin 10 on BECM to pin 10 on sat nav computer. Spliced off to radio and Hevac. That has to be the speed signal i would have thought. But that is only if you have a Land rover sat nav fitted.
