Hello all, I've had a little dig but not on the Disco,
recently I changed the gearbox & clutch on my '92 200tdi Discovery & when I test drove it the rev-counter had mysteriously died

I had a little fiddle with connectors under the bonnet on the alternator & n/s bulkhead (does the rev-counter get it's signal from the alternator?) but it no workie :(

is there a common problem with these?

I'm thinking either the wiring has got crimped somehow when re-fitting the 'box but it is not trapped in the bellhousing, maybe when the 'box was removed it was caught between the bulkhead & rocker-cover?

I've had a look in a haynes manual but the wiring diagram is of minor use & I didnt see mention of the rev-counter feed, so, is there a decent (online?) wiring diagram for a D1 / 200tdi available?

Thanks in advance.

Rich.

My 300tdi rev-counter was fed off the alternator, spade connection that corrodes and falls off! Dunno if it's the same on the 200 ....

well, progress report......

bloody alternator packed-up today

ordered a new one.....

hope this sorts the taco...

Well it's charging but no Rev-counter, will have a dog in the engines loom (strip old tape off & attack with a circuit tester)

I had this issue on my 300tdi,was a break in the wire from the alternator.Took me ages to find it as it was inside where a few wires had been taped together

you do have 3 wires to alt , battery feed to b+ warning light to d+ and rev feed to w+

TD, that's what I presume but I'm a bit busy / lazee / pre-occupied to have a look but now have a few days off so hopefully progress

rev feed to w+

thought so, thanks for the confirmation jm (same as wiring on my tdi converted wv's)

Okey, revcounter fixed, there was a break in a wire (white / grey stripe?) BUT oddly enough it was old damage as the strands were corroded green o_O
I know the disco had new clutch reasonably recently maybe within the last year or so so maybe it was trapped in the bellhousing  (ok, I know this sounds like I am trying to say it wasnt me BUT I had cable-tied the loom up away before changing the gearbox as an attempt to avoid this sort of damage)

anyway, all fixed now & seems to have more power o_O maybe less braking effect from the alternator as it has somewhere for the signal to go?? )
