The cat has cracked on the exhaust manifold

Just before I was about to fit my new stailess steel rear sport box, I done a general heath check on the system....bahhhh...I spotted a hairline crack in the cat and its blowing.

Can this be welded as a temporary measure till I save up for a replacement?

If you can, weld it.

I would run a grinder down the crack to make a bit of a groove and then mig it up as best I can. If the repair holds - I wouldn't bother replacing it. A welded crack should not affect its function.

Thanks for the replies.

The crack is almost 3/4 of the way round so it would have to be removed, so I thought I would just replace it and get it welded and keep it for a spare

Getting one from a salvage yard £35...picking it up in the morning.

The mota's in the garage tomorrow getting timming belt, tensioner, water pump, gear box and bird oil change so the guy gonna fit the manifold too.
