As I don't get what I would call hot air from my 2006 TD4 even with the second stat in place, I am thinking about covering the radiator grill during very cold periods in the hope it will enhance the heat output in the cab.

Is there one ready made that can be purchased or do I need to be inventive and create one?

Has anyone done this? If so, can you share what you used and how it was fitted?

I am reluctant to go down the road of using cardboard or foil as used to be quite a frequent sight many years ago. I think that looks scruffy.
 
This was why LR used the FBH. It's job is to heat the water fed to the heater, to add extra warmth.
The PTC heater should do the same thing in non FBH vehicles.
 
I can feel the PTC kicking in but it doesn't deliver much heat. Just enough really to assist with clearing the windscreen if it's misty.
 
Do you have the direction control knob facing one of the two screen settings? If so, the AC will be running too. This cools the heated air from the heater.
 
Mostly, these days to keep the windscreen clear.
I do get more heat when it's directed into the cab or at my feet, but compared with other cars I have owned, both petrol and diesel, it is a poor heater.
It is better now that I added a stat to the top hose but not as much as I was expecting.
 
The TD4 heater is poor. My old V6 was much much better. It's all to do with coolant temperature. The TD4 runs at around 80°C. This is low by petrol engine standards. The V6 runs at almost 100°C. If I feel my heater is not hot enough, I activate my FBH and turn the direction control to mid way between the screen and feet setting. Alternatively leaving the direction at feet/ screen and press the recirc button. This then draws warm air from inside the car, boosting heat output.
