Hi All,
After getting rid of my Series 3 pick up early this year , I just couldn't keep away , so ended up getting a replacement - would have got one sooner if I hadn't been shocked by the prices - Amazing , anyway finally found my - 1965 - Series 3 ... yes that's right , a 3 on a 2a chassis . But seems certainly a more solid structure than my previous . Anyway first question , the Oil bath filter has been replaced with a K&N filter , which is fine with me - Orginality isn't this landy's strong point , however I now have the hose that connects from the rocker to the base of the carb , but also used to T off & link I believe into the big air filter hose , but now this just goes nowhere , Wondered what was best to do ? - Blank it off , leave it , should it be connected to somewhere else . Appreciate your input

so it's a ringer with a log book swap to get free road tax.

blank it off, as the intake will suck the air through the pipe instead of through the breather, and you wont have a negative pressure in the crankcase. oh and try to put proper clamps where the fuel filter is as they are for water irrigation in ya garden.

Hi All,
That did cross my mind, but no, it is just a ground up rebuild of many parts . Any tax saving has already been spent on quite a parts list , back to the hose many thanks for the advise on the negative pressure , that does make sense, will get rid of that one a replace with just a single length , and yes proper clips are on the way those plastic ones on the fuel line did surprise me , will sort at the weekend . Planning a full fluid change as well , so will be kept busy

Hi All ,
Did a bit of further digging around , which I know I should have done initially , and this topic has come up a number times in various forms, and as always there are a multiple of views on the same question , one answer that caught my eye was " Is yours the T type system with one leg going to breather, one to carb and one to inlet ? If so just get a small paper filter for the inlet end, it will suck dirt into the engine otherwise. Don't be tempted to block the spare pipe as that will over (de)pressurise the block when you're on the overrun" . This seems to say with a direct connection rocker to carb, I could get too much vacuum (de) pressure created by the carb / manifold . That approach seems to hold some logic , as the "open end " created by removing the connection to oil bath would have originally allowed some flow of air . Would appreciate any wise words on the subject .... Oh and yes I am beginning to think return to the oil bath , but first any thoughts much appreciated .

Oil bath was the way lr designed it.

Stick with the oil bath,better in the long run.

Never saw the point of removing the oil bath apart from saving space, works well and easy to service.

I'd certainly agree , and would be quite happy to return , however when I got the vehicle the oil bath , it's cradle & all the hoses & carb connection were all gone , have looked around and it's going to add up to quite a bit to source & replace, perhaps in the future as funds allow , but just for the moment need to get the best out of the system as it is , current have a temporary direct connection as you can see , drove about 5 miles yesterday and it seemed ok , just keen to understand implications of this set up and what I may or may not expect - it might just fine.....oh and yes will be changing fuel clips just waiting on some new fuel line .
