Im 99 percent sure my themostat is stuck ooen as its taking the td4 approx 6 miles for the heater to blow warm. to confirm this I need your help.
Can anyone confirm if their landrover pumps water back into the coolant reservoir when cold. Mine does and this is why I think the thermostats gone.

That is normal. Takes my diesel about 10 minutes at idle to make warm air/heat
 
They all circulate coolant through the expansion tank as part of the self bleeding design. The thermostat being stuck, wouldn't necessarily make this more noticeable.
 
Ok that's fine then, so any ideas why the heater/ engine takes so long to warm up ? I'm just thinking that I struggle to get 340 miles to a tank of fuel and if this could have been part of the issue ?
I've tried the maf that's fine. I've checked the pollen filter that's fine. I've even checked the switches to the heater (knobs) and there fine

Have you checked that your heater is getting warm/hot all over ?

Do you have the optional FBH ?
 
Yes the rad does as well. When the td4 gets to tempature it's fine and blows lovely and warm however it just seems to take 20 mins at least to get there

short stop and go driving? or long motorway trips? how many gallons your tank hold

The TD4 is a cooler running engine - which is why these were an option...
The thermostat is a reet bugger to get at...
I'm not sure if yours has the temp sensor behind the bumper if it dunt have the FBH ... that's a cheaper fix if it's duff ...

The thermostat is about £40ish from what I remember ... then around 5 1/2 hour job to change ... did I say it was a bit of a @$*&@ to do ...

I do a mixture of both. My nearest village shop is approx 6 miles away so none of its extremely short journeys.
As per fuel, I've brimmed it to the top on both the last fills. I've not ran it out of fuel however I've got it bloody near. Both times have been between 320 and 340. I've just filled her up again to see what it does.
I've also put some wynnes cleaner in the tank as well. I'll see if that helps fuel consumption. However I not it won't help the heat :)

This is why I was thinking of doing the top hose inline thermostat conversion. Would this stop the water curculating on a cold start up ?
