I think mine may have given up on the pivot.

My question is, if i whip the slave cyl off will i be able to see the pivot in the bellhousing? I don't wanna be dropping the box only to find its a dogey master cylinder

No
If the release arm has holed on the pivot, the clutch pedal will be hard and unmoveable, probably gone to the floor.

you should be able to tell by feel and how rod sits, but be careful with rod

The slave rod needs to be firm and still sticking out the bell housing a good inch or more.When mine punched thru the fork(the ball end pivot inside bell housing,not the slave rod) it only stood about 1/4" proud of the bell housing(no travel left for slave)
