Afternoon If my Skoda ever sells I'm pondering popping over to have a butchers at this

Now I've never done more than change tyres on a freelander before and have only been in one once that was years ago but have changed many clutches over the years but freebies eluded me during that time.

So was wondering as a freebie novice, if the IRD was present and and had been severely damaged by a duff vcu, (like catastophicically fubard) would it present the same symptoms as a knackered clutch eg no drive regardless of clutch condition?

Just seems a few freelanders floating around currently which supposedly needing clutches and didn't want to go and get one that turns out to be 4 times as expensive to fix than a duff clutch.

Looks nice. If you can fit it yourself a clutch is around £100. We had one with a duff clutch a few years ago and it was fixed for around £350 but that was before I got my garage built. Would be surprised if anyone would do it for £300. I think the clutches go if you do a lot of towing so not necessarily anything more scary. If your lucky it might only be a sticky actuator shaft.

The only way an IRD would produce no drive would be if the splines to the gearbox had stripped. Its very rare that the IRD would not still give drive to the front wheels after locking up failure (VCU/tyres).

If it has clutch failure (or possibly box) you wouldn't be able to get it in gear (easily). If the problem is further down the transmission, it will go into gear but not drive.

I see its got 3 door seats in it.

I agree - on that mileage the L Series is just about run in, so would probably be a good buy - can probably haggle the price down a lot as well. Could just be the actuator stuck or even the bracket holding the slave has cracked, in which case it'll probably need a new master/slave kit as well (not that pricey) and freeing up the release arm. If you go view it, get someone to press the clutch peddle while you watch what happens under the bonnet - if the rod comes out of the slave cylinder and the release arm moves - then it is likely the clutch.

If you can get the price down a bit, I'd go for it

Check if its got props and matching tyres!

Hadn't noticed that but I am a freebie noob!

I was thinking 450 ish in terms of an offer if I get the chance to see it

Nice one eagle eyes, hadn't noticed that either but was puzzled at leather seats and a sponge steering wheel.
It looks like a nice car for the money but I would allow at least £400 to get it through MOT (if you do the work yourself) and probably another couple for a VCU but then that is the same for any car that age.

Those discs and pads suggest at least 4-6 months of being sat there rusting! so there's about £80 straight away and tyres look a bit low too too
