Hi everyone,
Well I'm back in a Discovery 2 again after a 2 year break following my last one being written off by a herd of bullocks on the road. Couldn't bear the thought of going through the process of sorting out all the faults and poor maintenance a replacement. Well I bit the bullet and after getting this one roadworthy I'm stuck with a problem I cannot sort so need the experts advice.
The main relay in the engine bay, relay number 9 is chattering when the engine is off. It starts a minute or two after switching off and continues as long as I leave it or start up again. Today it started when the engine was running, the engine cut out on me and was then misfiring because the relay was chattering away like crazy. have found that if I wedge the relay over slightly all is well for a while as it seems to make good contact.
So far to sort this problem I have, fitted a new battery, stripped out all the fuses and relays in the fuse box, removed the fuse box tray and cleaned all the contacts and plugs above and below the fuse, cleaned up the three earth points in front of the fuse box, closed up the relay socket connectors that relay plugs into, swapped the relays around. All to no avail.
I'm now thinking there is a break or corrosion in the contact/connecting strips below the relays that connect to the wiring connector blocks below the fuse box.
So, any other thoughts appreciated, and is it possible to separate the two upper and lower halves of the fusebox?
By the way, I've put the Nanacom on the engine and a number of irregular and spurious sensor faults throw up that I suspect is due to the chattering of the relay and loss of supply.

Your Main Relay K9 gets its power through the inertia cut-out switch on the bulkhead under the bonnet. It gets its ground connection(s) through the ECM (Engine Control Module).

Is it Main Relay R100 on the wiring diagram ?

Unfortunately, the designations on the fusebox and those on the schematics aren't the same.

Peter

Hi
Yes its R100
It's getting supply but I'm thinking the relay socket or the tracks inside the fusebox are the problem. Are they repairable?
