i have a bit of a problem my chassis on my 1986 defender 3.9 v8 efi its starting to rot . I have seen many galvanised td5 chassis for sale. Would this chassis fir my defender just with modification to the engine mounts? also do the transfer box mounts need to be changed?

Yeah it would, but you can get all the different chassis - unless your planning an engine change get the chassis to suit your engine.

Also if you buy a galv chassis then cut it up to fit new mounts then you have created a rust spot and area for the rust to set in as you have broken the galv seal so to speak.

Look on ebay, I got a brand new 300tdi chassis for under well under 1000 notes last year - I didn't bother in the end but my local galv yard were going to charge £60 to dip clean it and galv it.

so it would be just the engine mounts that need changign or the transferbox ones too? did you buy a non galvanised chassis?

i think if you used a td5 chassis you would also have to re-site your fuel tank, not sure though!!!
