Hello everybody I have a chance of a cheap 1.8 with a clutch problem body nice and same for inside. The Mrs td4 is ruff on body and inside how much hassle is it to swap engines from one to the other Kind regards Ray

it's been asked quite a few times Ray

don't bother unless as well as changing the engine/gearbox you also want to rewire it and change the ecu (as well as adding a lot of other stuff too)

I believe the engine mounts are in completely different places, and the suspension set up is different, with the diesels being heavier.

You are basically talking about a total strip down and then a re-shell.

Sounds like a fun weekends work!

lol, would be interesting to compare your video record of it to those on YouTube where a bunch of guys strip a Series down, start from a new chassis and have it rebuilt in a weekend. I think there's a lot more to strip off a Freelander and all those plastic trim panels would never fit right again!

do they ever fit right once you have had them off.

It's something I would love to do.... I just need to find a late model td4 with half leather and all the rest of the goodies that has been hit hard enough to write it off but not hard enough to damage anything I need, (a good punt in the arse from a truck or something) and is nice and cheap.

I did a similar thing with a couple of mk3 fiestas about 15 years ago.


And all because they don't do a facelift kinversand!

it's possible to do it, without a doubt, but will take an age to do


you have to weigh up wether it's viable financially (ie. would you ever get your money back by doing it). If it's done just for the technical challenge then that's a good excuse
