OK, so car failed MOT today on exhaust middle and rears (twin).

I have found some decent prices at BUYPARTSBY, comes out at about £170 including delivery, clamps and new mounts.

Do I need any sealant on the joints during the assembly procedure, or is it not nescessary?

That seems a fair price.
Yes, get a tube of exhaust assembly paste and apply to joints to seal them.

Push in joints should not required any sealant at all. Except in the very smallest quantity. As a matter of fact it is a bad idea to use it, as it makes breaking exhaust down IF it needs to come off at any later stage almost impossible.

never used sealant on my 4.0 96. had no leaks and was a good fit.. bought it from local motor factors for a good price but that was a few years ago now

Most of the joints on the P38 are bolted flange joints, not push in..apart from the tee for the back boxes.

Try telling that to the exhaust fitters.

Well you see there is method in their madness. Instead of the system being part replacable, when it is welded together by gungum or whatever it's a full system sir. Can't get it apart without damage.
