The central locking on my Land Rover Discovery 1996 V8I doesn't work, manually, or with the remote. The lights on the remote work so I don't think it's a problem with the remote. Any help would be appreciated.

Try new batteries in the remote. Even though the lights work it might not be sending enough of a signal.

Ok thanks - will try, but I thought that because the central locking doesn't work even when I turn the key in the lock that it must be something wrong with the locking mechanism rather than the remote? Any thoughts?

You could try checking all the electrical connections, earths etc. My old disco had no end of random c/l problems, sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't. I gave up messing with it in the end and just used the key in the door.

Someone has told me that if the central locking doesn't work it's an indication that something is wrong with the computer.....do you know anything about this? I'm not bothered about the central locking not working, but we are trying to sell the vehicle and one potential buyer is concerned that it's not working.
