I have just bought a 300tdi and want to get a decat pipe and egr blanking plug. My question is does it get tested on emissions on the MOT and does it still pass with a decat pipe on. How much difference does a blanking plate make.

It's only some petrol engines have the full cat test for CO & HC emmissions your diesel will only have a smoke test.

How much difference does a blanking plate make ? well none at all if your EGR was in a good serviced condition, but I suspect you have never done that so the removal may make a slight difference, but you won't go any faster

The de-cat pipe helps the engine to breath better, so even though it doesn't make more absolute power, it makes it's power more quickly, so feels more responsive.

The blanking of the engine makes two important differences:

1. Stops the inlet manifold getting any more clogged; when you de-EGR check the inlet manifold for a tar-like substance which blocks the entry.

2. Smoother low revs performance with better hill climbing and towing. The difference is not huge but it is there.

their should be no problem at all with mots ours is a 1998 300tdi. decatted(mainly due to the old one knackered) and egr blanked sailed through mot yesterday no problems on emmisions/smoke test, but as already suggested. if you do blank the egr make certain you de gunge the inlet manifold and also give the intercooler a good clean, also if you go for the decat pipe we bought the cheap one that goes on the defender (no flexi bit) but found some vibration so changed it for the decat pipe with flexi, that improved it no end.

Don't worry about mot. I've got a solid decat and single silencer exhaust on my 300.plus fuel pump tweek. Sailed through mot no problem.

I have a 96 300tdi with de cat, de egr, no centre box and a side exit and flew through its mot today

mines the same de-cat de-egr straight through center section,and tweeked pump no problems

Sounds good to me then it's got 12 month on it anyway but it's a definite change coming up then thanks people

Im the same straight through flies through MOT - well on emissions side anyway!
