The cat on the 300tdi is more of a filter than a true cat.

Alright boys, I did this job about 2 months ago with the exact same part biglad is refering to for the 300tdi Defender. It replaces the original downpipe and cat perfectly and as biglad says the cat is more a particle collector that a proper cat as there is no lambda sensor thing.

I also replaced all the boxes in my exhaust with a length of 63mm diameter tubing, sounds amazing now too, power up slightly and it walked its MOT no issues.

The only problem I found was slight vibration for a couple of days as I think this must be to do with the flexible bit of the pipe no longer being there, but a good session off roading soon sorted that out and its stopped now, make sure you use plenty of WD on the studs/nuts on the manifold as there a tw@t to get off and damn awkward to get to too, many scraped knuckles and bruied wrists ahead, but a great mod...

TDI 300 = diesel = NO CAT, its just a friggen muffler.
CATS are for petrol and are full of rear earth materials that get realy hot so that we are not breathing in nasty stuff, that all so set the grass on fire.

what you have is just a boring old muffler, cut the thing out and just put a bit of pipe in there, if you are worried about the coppers, get a hot dog type and weld that in. easy as. the up side is the turbo should spool up a bit quicker, IE she will start pulling like a 14 year old pommy school boy.

Oh and biglad I guessed that was your sense of humour no one in their right mind would buy a Landy for performance reasons, I too have a similar sarcastic sense of humour which I feel may be lost on our antipodean cousins.........

With full articulation UJ's should be no problems. Bars and sliders are fine - all my vehicles have had them, made in me garage from HD box section and tube.
