I want to change the PAS fluid on my LHD D2. Can I do so by disconnecting the return pipe to the reservoir so the old fluid is flushed out? And pouring in new fluid?

Yes you can, that's how i drained mine too...i was a bit more 'radical' cos i didnt want to bleed it after so i clogged the tank's port, directed the return pipe into a cannister, removed the management main relay and let my wife to crank it while i poored 1.5l of fluid in the tank then moved fast and reconnected the pipe to the tank and topped up... but you can simply drain it and refill it cos it seems that the system will self bleed but i didnt know that then

or you could just put a pipe on open bleed nipple to a container run engine and keep topping up res till fluid runs clean
